This Privacy Policy describes how Silicon Visions (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Motiou macOS application (“the App”) and the Motiou website at motiou.com (“the Website”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we handle.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Email address — provided when you purchase a subscription or activate the App.
  • Payment information — processed securely by our payment provider, LemonSqueezy. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or billing details on our servers.
  • License key — generated upon subscription purchase and used to activate the App on your device.

Information collected automatically

  • Machine identifier — a one-way hash of your device’s hardware UUID, used solely to bind your license to a single machine. The original UUID is never transmitted or stored.
  • App version and macOS version — sent during license validation to ensure compatibility.
  • License validation timestamps — the date and time of each validation check, stored locally on your device in the macOS Keychain.

Information we do NOT collect

Motiou is a screen recording and video editing application. We do not collect, transmit, access, or store any of the following:

  • Screen recording content or video files
  • Audio recordings or microphone input
  • Webcam footage
  • Mouse movements, clicks, or keyboard input
  • File names, file contents, or directory structures
  • Browsing history or application usage
  • Location data

All recording, editing, and export operations happen entirely on your device. No media data ever leaves your computer.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • License activation and validation — to verify that your subscription is active and bind it to your device.
  • Subscription management — to process payments, manage billing cycles, and handle cancellations through LemonSqueezy.
  • Customer support — to respond to your inquiries and resolve issues related to your account or the App.
  • Product updates — to notify you about new versions, features, or important changes (only if you have opted in).

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • LemonSqueezy (lemonsqueezy.com) — handles payment processing, subscription management, license key generation, and the customer portal. LemonSqueezy processes your payment information under their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing the LemonSqueezy Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel (vercel.com) — hosts the Motiou website. Vercel may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited). See the Vercel Privacy Policy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any other third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Local device storage — your license key, activation status, and validation timestamps are stored in the macOS Keychain, which is encrypted with AES-256 by the operating system and tied to your macOS user account.
  • Payment data — stored and secured by LemonSqueezy in compliance with PCI DSS Level 1 standards.
  • Data in transit — all API communication between the App and LemonSqueezy uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher.
  • No cloud storage — Motiou does not upload any of your files, recordings, or projects to any server.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data — retained for as long as your subscription is active. Upon cancellation, your email and license data are retained by LemonSqueezy for up to 12 months for accounting and tax compliance purposes, after which they are deleted.
  • Local data — your license information remains in your macOS Keychain until you deactivate the App or delete the Keychain entry. You can remove it at any time from the App (Motiou menu → Activate Motiou → Deactivate) or from Keychain Access.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion — request deletion of your personal data. Contact us at help@motiou.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing of your data for specific purposes.

For residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), these rights are provided under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For California residents, these rights are provided under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To exercise any of these rights, contact us at help@motiou.com.

7. Cookies

The Motiou website uses only essential cookies required for basic website functionality. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. No personal information is collected through cookies.

8. Children’s Privacy

Motiou is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at help@motiou.com and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide additional notice through the App or by email. Your continued use of Motiou after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
